  1. The press release was so obviously worded with excruciating difficulty in casting Dr. Smith’s tenure in a positive light. This is in dramatic contrast to the high expectations inherent in the press release about his hiring, which stated, in part:

“We are thrilled that Denny has joined CFRE and look forward to his leadership. His expertise will ensure the continued growth of the credential and the tradition of excellence that CFRE International has been known for over the last 25 years. Denny’s talents and skills will be a tremendous asset as we seek to support ethical and accountable fundraising around the world.”

Judging by this type of pablum disseminated by CFRE International, and my general knowledge of the CFRE credential, I wouldn’t be surprised to find that many fundraisers will have four fewer letters on their next reorder of business cards.

    • Jeff, thank you for sharing your thoughts and for providing some perspective. I would certainly enjoy knowing the inside story about Dr. Smith’s departure. But, I suspect we’ll never get too many details. My hope now, you might describe it as wishful thinking, is that CFRE International finds a dynamic, capble CEO that can help the credential realize its full potential for the profession.
